CARACAL Training Courses

A basic guides course has been developed in support of our tourism training focus for Botswana citizens. The program runs for a week and covers a wide range of information from hydrology of the Chobe Linyanti Wetlands to the life history of dragonflies. The course is designed to give Batswana a competitive advantage and increase performance of locally hired guides. The course is taught by Dr. Vandewalle who has worked as an ecologist in Botswana for over thirty years and is a citizen of the country.

CARACAL staff provide training to DWNP officers in reptile behavior, handling, safety through both classroom training and a hands on laboratory held at the Chobe Snake Park. Reptiles within the collection are used to train officers how to handle snakes and identify venomous species.

Mr. M. Clemence (above), Dr. Alexander and Dr. M. Vandewalle (banner) have together over 80 years experience in handling, care and capture of reptiles.

Transboundary Management Forum: Namibian and Botswana

In order to provide better transboundary communication and management planning, CARACAL has developed a forum where Field Officers involved in Natural Resource Management across the international boundary of Namibia and Botswana come together every three months and discuss management issues, increase information sharing and access scientific information. We are presently looking for funding to carry on with this important project.

Participants gather for a group shot at the Department of Wildlife and National Parks in Chobe.
